The Return of Baseball Leads to Big Wins for 18u Moose

After a week of rest due to Mother Nature, the 18u CT Moose got back on track. A double header against the DBI Schooners was at task for the hungry 18u squad on Saturday morning. The bats must have got some recharged rest over the one week hiatus of baseball competition because the Moose never took its foot off the gas right from the first inning of game one.

Trailing 4-3 after two innings of play in game one, Landon White, the starting pitcher settled in and the Moose went on to score six unanswered to end the game. Lead off lefty, Riley Gravel led the Moose at the plate with a double, triple and two runs batted in. Mike Demio, Christian Pedro, and Chase Gibson also had strong performances at the plate in game one of the double header. Evan Niziolek came in relief for Landon White and threw a strong two and a third, allowing just one hit and striking out four.

In game two it was all Moose. Brandon Wolmer and Sam Smith each had themselves great days at the plate. Wolmer had two hits and two runs batted in while Sam Smith hammered two doubles.

Not only were the bats working for the Moose in game two, but on the other side of the ball, former Northwest Catholic star Garrett Fusco came to play. The big right hander allowed just three hits in four innings on zero runs, whilst striking out four. He then passed the ball to Anthony Morro who delivered two scoreless innings to finish off the DBI Schooners.

It was a great day of baseball for the 18u Moose as they captured its ninth and tenth win on the season. The Moose face off against the CT Capitals on Tuesday at 5:45pm at Windsor High School. For more coverage visit the Connecticut Moose Instagram page.
